NEIGHBORHOOD ACTION
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008Dear Green Halloween® enthusiasts,
Thank you so much for taking an interest in spreading the word about this movement. We were pretty excited to see how enthusiastic our supporters were at our last event, and how people who didn’t initially feel they would be interested gained enthusiasm after hearing more about our program.
We really believe this is going to become a great and positive movement for the Daytona area (as well as nationwide) and we would love for all of you to share in our joy.
There are many ways to participate in Green Halloween.®
First of all,
Green Halloween® is a non-profit, grassroots community movement to create healthier and more earth friendly holidays starting with Halloween. It is hosted by Treeswing, a 501 (c ) 3 committed to building generations of healthy, active communities. Green Halloween® of Daytona’s local beneficiary (umbrella organization) is the Volusia-Flagler Surfrider Chapter, a non-profit grassroots environmental organization dedicated to the protection of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.
Ways to participate:
- We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life to become part of our movement. There are many ways to participate from
- Joining our committee to
- Spreading the word.
Which brings me to the main point of this post:
Our Neighborhood Tool Kit
(which can be found on our website by either visiting www.GreenHalloween.org and clicking on “Help Out” and then “Download our neighborhood action kit,” or by visiting http://greenhalloween.org/downloads/action_kit.pdf)
The Action Kit gives some information to help you get your community or neighborhood involved.
It gives statistics, the “Top 3 reasons to go healthy and green this Halloween,” and suggestions on what you can distribute instead of traditional candy (more ideas at http://greenhalloween.org/content.php?page=treats)
- What I am asking is for you to print 10 copies or more of kit and distribute them amongst your neighbors, workplaces, churches, or wherever you think you can gather interest. (Print it. Email it to out of town family and friends. Whatever way you think you can get the word out.)You can also simply print one and then use the information to convince others about this movement and sign them up for the mailing list.
OUR GOAL is to get as many communities participating by Halloween as we can, but for that we need your help.
Remember, this movement is for everyone, so let them know if they don’t think they can shoot to be the greaniest green bean, even offering to pass out only one piece of candy or giving children a choice between a small toy or “treasure” or candy is a good option, too, and will help.
(According to a recent Harvard study 2 out of 3 children chose a treasure over candy when given the choice.)
And if you get 5 or more participating houses on your block or street please let us know so that we can notify other “green” enthusiasts to bring their families your way.
- Also, you can always visit the MAP on GreenHalloween.org (http://greenhalloween.org/content.php?page=map) and type in your address. We would love to show participation all over America ASAP.
SO, SEND OTHERS TO THIS WEBSITE, and let us know any way you can participate to spread the word.
Again thank you for your interest. Please, let us know if you are interested in continuing to receive emails.
Green Wishes!
